The Gordian Knot: An all silent play

The Gordian Knot:  An all silent play

woman in professional attire stands center stage at a podium
several young women dressed in shorts and T-shirts stand in front of podium
taking pictures of woman at podium with imaginary cameras

Enter two police officers who are physically skipping and go up
to the young women and visibly take each imaginary camera from them
and throw these to the ground

The women shrug their shoulders, squat down and brush off where
the cameras had broken, then they lay down on their bellies and do
log rolls right over the officers who fall down and remain on the floor of the stage

The woman at the podium starts doing jumping jacks, the police officers start doing
push-ups, and the young women on the floor start doing sit ups

Enter a P.E. teacher moving quickly up to them and blowing a whistle
and all of them stop what they are doing and jog in place, then stop.

The teacher points up with index finger draws down a straight line
to indicate a rope and the woman at the podium is shaking her head No,
and comes over and
appears to wrap the rope around her neck making choking sounds

The police get into a fake punching match until the teacher goes up
to the podium and dings a bell, then they stop and breathe heavy, and the teacher
puts up a stop sign with his right arm to the woman with the rope, and the woman
stops strangling herself momentarily and flip the teacher the bird, and

each young woman takes a turn lightly patting the woman on the back
as if to save her, but really congratulating her,
and shaking their heads, then adding a light punch on her arm

The woman shakes off the imaginary rope then hands it to the closest young woman
who visibly tries climbing it and jumping in place, and each girl takes a turn

Then one of the officers comes up and visibly cuts the rope up high with his arms
then he holds it and demonstratively ties it into a knot

He hands it to the woman who was at the podium, and she holds it outward
in her two hands, staring at the knot, perplexed expression, shrugs her shoulders,
and hands it to one young woman, who holds it and does the same as the other

Repeat with all woman holding and examining the knot.

The P.E. teacher puts index finger to his temple tapping it against his head
indicating, Think, think, think!

The woman who was at the podium goes up to the officer who had cut the rope
and they slap a high ten over their heads, then she goes back to the last young woman
who is still holding the rope outward in her hands, and the professional woman
visibly with both arms, cuts the knot, and takes one piece, and hands the other
piece to the young women.

Enter 3 cheer leaders who are clapping and kicking up high.  The teacher goes
to the podium and gestures that he is holding a camera, and the professional
woman, the young men, the officers, and the cheer leaders stand close together,
smiling, the teacher takes the picture.

Lights out.  The end.
