Unemployment

depends upon the state. Latest is, Iowans are either still getting delays, can't get it, or haven't seen it yet. It's interesting. This is considered a furlough, and not a lay-off. I think also there is incentive for their employers to pay them while off, they get a big tax credit. They are also hiring, and then might let them go when and if everybody comes back.

Beautiful day in Iowa. Pics from the park.

just trying to leave the house

just went up to Randy's for dollar bag veggies, plus the cheapest smokes in town, got to the register, and their sign said they are no longer taking renewable, reusable bags. I questioned her, and she said, Lots of places are doing this, you can't bring anything in from home. I told her the Dollar Stores are still letting me, they even sell them. She said, We do too. I suppose this is mainly for the cashiers, since women obviously bring their purses into the store, but the cashier never touches it. I'm about really sick of all of this, how bout you? Are you hearing me, Portland?

Well this is upsetting

I can't even send a Messenger on FB to the Victory Center homeless shelter in Clinton to ask a question. They only want prayer requests. I wanted to ask if they are giving out free dog food for Clinton county residents. I'm almost certain Theisen's would donate food. I'd like to start this fundraising myself, if it's not being done.

Good news!

I’m going to be a Girl Scouts Troop Leader again. Daisies. Kindergarten. Meetings will be at the school about a block from my house. Not sure when we’ll be starting, but I’m already planning low cost crafts and games suited for this age, and soon I’ll do intro online classes for Leaders. The coordinator wants to recruit another Leader with me, and girls for the Troop. I can always work on this too. Excited.

Hurting my business

There have been some adult with a mental condition who do dog walking/caring in this town, so, if Free Sheri! is hurting dog business, then at least I’m getting more word out on other things. My business cards are my first name and phone number, says, prefer texts.

A little bit about the work I'm doing for my business

I'm going to be watching dog care videos on You Tube sometime today. Each one is under 20 minutes. I'll post that I'm always learning, to DeWitt Sit & Fit. My business comes up on the list of local pet sitters. Looks like I'm the only one in the DeWitt Central school area. I didn't learn much from that business webinar last night, except there's always money to be made from the public's personal weaknesses. Then the presenter sang one of his rap songs...hilarious, he sounded like Weird Al. I'm scheduled to do another webinar on Sustainable Living, this afternoon. I'd like to see their take on climate change.

Update on my job

The call center doesn't need a cleaner on Saturdays anymore, for right now, so those hours are cut for me. It's because I leave that place immaculate on Friday nights, but of course I didn't hear this. Another cleaner will be working Sundays. My shift is now Wed. thru Fri. nights. Be great if I can get DeWitt Sit & Fit going.

Predictions (a short poem this morning)

Predictions The storm, as a last ditch effort to move a critic, has a rough patch now dosed and making up coming clean. A gulping train belches flags. Someone says the chill of the white farm house will need green to show all things break down. Life or death comes on like street lights of an all too familiar ride.  If I was taken short or long, the gases will not collide, or make tomorrow fill the head with thunder. If the lights go out, I've already written the book on the dark.

Sandals

Sandals There is no longer a buckle in the woods. The trail is poised for permanent but all the new eyes adjust. Summer makes jello of the sky. These must have staples, if not part of the mix in every step are fine as the sand even camps can't go without.  If you were matching that trying to find what exactly goes good in every day clarity, your whole body is in the foot, walking on the sun, just choose duration.  They come with traction and they spell out even the most difficult passages. This activism of selling my book

A lot better than working to get out of it, all the work I've done to every official, not what I want to do anymore. This Sky I Know, print copy, will now be sold at Mattingly Books in Newton, Iowa, Beaverdale Books in Des Moines, and hopefully River Lights in Dubuque, Iowa.

I got these out of the trash last night at work.

They've got at least 3 days left in them, will feel all Springy in here today, plus near 70.  I just turned the furnace off, hopefully for good. Good morning, everyone.  "Sandal" will be coming up today, and some coloring.  Hope to get a nap in. Here's another table I played around with after 1 a.m. last night.

Just now on the internet

ok. new ad on the the chill out music I listen to all the time, about covid 19, woman with fake lips and hair, says she's staying home to tie-dye all her clothes, and this is supposed to be delightful, except written and produced ad was copying that I had said that and posted it about what to do next creatively. Fuckers, stay away from me...! And I mean yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

my smartphone

my phone's been making sizzling sounds, like static, kind I used to hear on my land phone. it's not hot though, and it's faint, has to quiet in the house to hear it. hmm.

Promoting and selling my book

I reached out to 9 independent booksellers in Iowa last night, trying to sell This Sky I Know, in their store. There's a chance one or maybe two of them would give me a reading, and on site selling, sometime this Spring and Summer. It's another thing entirely to HEAR me read these poems.

My pet business

Ms. Sheri Grutz/DeWitt Sit & Fit Facebook ad has reached its monetary threshold of $25. They still keep it pretty cheap, which is nice. My business cards have shipped, that was only around 25 too. Still don't know what's going on with Google: My Business, but I'm ready to try cancelling it if I'm spending up to or over 50 bucks. Haven't heard back from the local newspaper, but they may run my one time ad I submitted for under 10 bucks. I probably should have tried to plug my business at the park yesterday, but I didn't. Maybe I'm not a true businesswoman.

We walked the off-trails today at Westbrook Park in town. pics.

Deck is set up and cleaned up.

Forgot I had this jacket. Time to get doing things today.

ebooks

I guess I don't have a digital copy of Forgivable Charms, but may be on the crashed old laptop if I can retrieve any of that. Otherwise, it's on the original grutzworks or you'll just have to meet me to read it. I think that will be it for now, until I publish new material on Kindle Store.

Here's another one I made up late last night.

This summer writing

I'd like to finish my novella.  It's got a real good start to it.  And I've got the whole story still in my mind, though I can't find the outline I did. I think it is anticipated by my followers.

This morning's poem: Spring

Spring Words from puffed purple lips after a fall of rain, heart, and slick mustache say this is the kiss that heals a child's scrape that I have fought forever to be Daddy. The tooth came out as a stained sun open for interpretation of an old poem. I put a fist into a window as more error blew even my mind into a corner, I will sweep off her feet the woman who puts me on hold to calm the storm.  And I will win never by default or this rain delay this game of love.

DeWitt Sit & Fit

Got another iron in the fire...I'm now on Google Business to advertise for DeWitt Sit & Fit, my pet sitting business. It looks like my budget that I set is at 2 dollars a day, or 61 dollars a month, but it hasn't been approved yet, and when it does it will pop up probably near the top of a search, and also, I'm going to get charged a $50 fee just as a start up, and they said this charge will be refunded after one week, but then will continue as a monthly charge. But I will get a credit for $100. I'm going to wait until it's approved, and be more clear about these details. I guess I'll be charged something every time someone clicks on my ad, and maybe even if they call me, but it doesn't say how much. I'll let you know if, and when, it's up and running, but yes, I am in business. I'm certified in Petting Sitting, will be able to do daily, or short term boarding in my house that does not require a kennel, I have a large fe

Not a Number (a brief all-silent play)

Not a number A brief all-silent play by Daze (Sheri Grutz) Man sits in an office chair behind a messy desk with phone, laptop, and an ipod with a set of big head phones.   The phone rings once.  The man visibly looks piqued.  It's only one ring, and he stares at the phone seeking a hesitant connection.  He rubs his face.   Enter supposed receptionist with small drum and mallet, and she aggressively stands in front of him, emotional and she bangs the drum one time.  The man squints his eyes, and she leaves quickly.  Man again shrugs his shoulders, and he begins work on his laptop. There is one knock that comes from the background, supposedly from the wall behind him.  Man raises his head abruptly and stares straight ahead, wondering.  It is only one loud knock.  Silence.  Pause.  The man shrugs his shoulders yet again, and goes back to his laptop. There is the sound of one bark from a large dog that comes from his laptop.  Man shakes his head, and raises his eyebrows,

Published ebook for Beth

KDP publishing

Today I’ve published two new ebooks of mine on Kindle Store. One is flash fiction, or short fiction typically with a twist. The other is a book of longer fiction, a very readable book for adults. They sell for $4.99 a copy. I have better luck selling my paperbook books, but this service is free, and it’s easy. I outreach on my blog, and on Facebook, my page, and groups. The way things are going, I’ll have another chapbook of the ‘series poems’ in a couple of months.

new ebook of mine

I've gotten my early writing manuscript, Snapdragons, and other flash fiction, polished up and formatted, and in about 2 to 3 days it will be available in ebook on Kindle Store with a purchase price of $4.99. The reader will have the option of buying it or subscribing to Kindle Unlimited to read my works free for 30 days, after that, it goes to a monthly charge, and royalties I won't see. It was also mandatory at 70% profit off a sale for the reader to be able to buy it, then share it with family and friends for 14 days. It's doubtful I'll do another print book, but you never know. This service is free.

My blog

My writing is currently not being formatted correctly on this blog, and I'm not sure what else to try to set it straight. Most of what I'm doing now is also on Facebook, if you go to my timeline. Thanks.

this morning's dog poem: Irish Setter

Irish Setter Used to be glossy or matte, woman's lip color, a man's tie, the holiday the wine unbricked the church into a chimney from ash to ash. Get a bird when the sound goes off the chase of the strong drink is the perking the conversation tries to get close to Sedona. Show dog of eloquence, the black forest cake is grand prize in a kitchen of heaven the ears hang on promise and comfort til the winning the picture a child made lasts as long as a year served sweet.

Today's poem: All the World's a Stage

All the World's a Stage Dance comes thru as horse and carriage stretching the road away like a limit left behind, knowing what is leaving, keep moving before the hum when looking behind catches this break-away. and they keep hearing it through the grape vine, all the dancing has added up to freedom now, when there were no signs on that road but creeping indication today of any kind of movement, the body has always been knowledge, and the horse? well, it is cutting the air like a butter knife thru cake. -S.Grutz

dog poem: Black Lab

Black Lab The seeds the peasant drops are hints. It's sprinkling when you are patted. There is roaming at night when the hours have filled pot holes like your belly. The moon might crumble a frosted cookie you sweep thru the room with no urgency body solid as a chocolate bunny good as a favorite record. Walks are slow as a clock and the need for holding is your big paws that won't run a stray thought of missing.

Poem for Jon Puckett, by Sheri

Poem for Jon Puckett When the world wasn't spinning, the beer went flat and I think I got a taste of what it's like to be you always trying to finish what you started. Sure, the last impossible thing was quitting, but why not, darkness blotched my eyes til I was rubbing in stars. I see North to South like a vertical high and low appearing to run like a river in every song and book knowing enough to get by over it holding onto to nothing. Done. Done. On with the next one. Wrote the Globe as Art during short phase of the moon marshmallow flying off I think it stuck. Things become less shocking when you value that river and know your place.

it's no good

Not in so many words, but my pdoc thinks I’m turning manic. She said she sees this in patients who are highly motivated and do lots of things all day, and also don’t sleep at night, or have bad insomnia. Geez. I’m not manic! I’m not sick. This is the real me now. She won’t lower my meds, doesn’t want to change anything, even after me saying I’m hearing of lots of my clients who took these psych meds for years, and they didn’t make it to see 60. yeah. She is glad I’m not as paranoid. I guess.

new poem: Putting things in motion

Putting things in motion by Sheri The words were a labyrinth when we went round and round unraveling more than strings I was stepping bringing sunlight like a bowl of oranges I'd clean any mouth that took this chance of certain discovery and kiss goodbye the years the orchard failed to carry the morning into a must have talk I said it before that the peace in the end will be worth the work of clearing the mind like a back space of how it was written for us long ago when everyone said  take your time first learn to walk find your way into the center and out

Taking Action

This is my first message to you after signing up to do a virtual volunteer job, now, and most of this year: Be an Advocate. Fight Poverty. After taking a free online class on Psychology and Mental Health, I learned that a more broad approach is needed in addressing problems in this population. Mainly a socio-psychological underpinning of what can be traced to a life of injustice, struggles, major mental disorders (as children, and then adults), relationship problems and many other setbacks, and one of the main culprits, is poverty.

Next dog poem: Pit Bull

Pit Bull The coat the river borrows. The eyes moving as a speed boat.  You are a magnet pulling paper clips making loose papers scatter their chicken scratches by hand you know the pressure of reading everyone. The ears of the toes of dress socks tumbling in high heat.  The tail took the effort out of love.  You are not shy binding every structure to a body built as high as anyone is willing to go to find a panting after any chase and coming down like this lumberjack.

The System Reacts (a brief play)

The System Reacts (a brief play) by Sheri Grutz Lights up on an all gray room with a mural of a mountain on the wall. Doctor dressed in all denim is standing in front of female patient who is sitting in an arm chair rigidly. Behind him is a large table with 4 glasses half-filled with water, a large pitcher of water, and a large bowl. PATIENT It's freezing in here! DOCTOR Yes. It's a time of high alertness. PATIENT I don't want my name used. DOCTOR There's a name for that, but ok. I've known Dr. Stefani for quite some time, he explained to you why we asked you here today, right? PATIENT If it's in your written notes, it's all mental to me. DOCTOR There will be a paper trail, it's good to find your way back. PATIENT But this has only been happening for about 2 months. DOCTOR Yes. They all want to know the beginning, even the best of us see a gestation period, and clearly we're not Born to Live at this point. Let me bring you over to th

Confessions: A poem by Sheri

Confessions We threw rocks into the inner world as if we'd hit a mark. I took a sunken look as treasure until that glow was all heads some ship lost when the plank was in the eye and they turned back. Find any design unraveled back to nothing but a straight line under a title of a book and call this hard work you built to live in. Start to finish it's been made to last wallpaper chalk and stains. Was it wrong to spill my guts?

Psyche

Thinking more and more about the 'psyche.' I might do some research on this, and after this class, What is a Mind? I wonder if you can actually feel it working.

Next dog poem: Golden Retriever

Golden Retriever Soft step blowing like a drape over the window of the soul open and letting in you are a marker of Spring in a comfy shoe you fit with everybody and won't wear out peace large and steady as truth you blend with the room like a cake making the day happy precious with no guard all is given on a tune so familiar you wake the day with love

Just a little something this morning, no title

When I took clothes to be my fitting in the world, the repairs went like this:  50 buttons too small, 50 patches too flowery, 50 particles of gray lint I picked off like scabs.  When I took every door to be an entry, the walking went like this: I must be coming to a certain point, I must be seeking out this environment for purpose.  These things I have, whether or not for use.  Yesterday the sky was gray, and the slabs on concrete under my feet came to life.
