The criticism can start over the least likely things, like house keeping,

and lead to much larger things like life style, parenting, and relationships.
The target is in a position where she must constantly prove herself,

because there is a major issue of proof that is needed to be believed.

The things said to the target from the family are designed to weaken
the targets resolve.  It's done on purpose.  They use the family to make

the target feel unlovable, undeserving, and constantly in the wrong.
