Cotton
by Sheri
The squirrel digs deep in the cushion
stealing the comfort of summer clouds
for a better bed these humans leave out
pulling with those razor teeth and
claws
his find is luck when everything is
open
the air itself turned soft this week
and not as hard as a frozen face of the
moon
the squirrel knows it won't last
but he might not last too and there's
work
to be done
