here's how this whole thing started. I wanted to work, but had two disabled kids, so I asked my mom to watch them, she didn't want to, but told me, I want to get paid to watch your kids. The greatest thing happened, Alec got off the waiting list for the MR waiver, so I could get staff to take care of him while I worked. Then the suggestion of CCO came up, and it seems good, because it wouldn't be an agency, I could hire anybody I want to be his staff. Sooooo, I hired my mom, my daughter, and my step dad. Probably the wrong thing to do. Then the suggestion came up that Alec needs a legal guardian. Well, any day, I could die from targeting, nearly have several times, and I'm on psych meds which could cut my life short, so I said, I want you (my step dad) and my daughter to be legal guardians. Ohhh, boy. Now EVERY decision is made by them, I no longer get to write up the goals, approve the hours, get calls and meetings from the case manager or the broker, and they hold the guardianship over my head. Comes to right now, Phil Mask got work in Des Moines, and my mom had already said she would take Alec and our dog, if we had to go out of town. So, Alec is living at their house, as his grandparents, AND, staff, so getting paid through CCO for caring for him, and they took his SSI check. I'm not going to tell you what a great job I did raising my kids, just this sad ending. Alec is now 25.
