As an incoming freshman, being 18 years and fresh out of the lifelong Catholic church, my group of peers in the mandatory rhetoric class chose me to go head to head in a debate on pornography. I considered it degrading, and he considered it good money. I excelled in thinking and showing that women are better than sex slaves. At the time, I had a debate also with a high school friend who came to visit, and the debate was, what's the bigger Liberal Arts college, The University of Iowa, or Grinnell college, where he was going. Liberal, that word, liberal, and yet even later after having kids, there were some books in classes that I was opposed to. I went to bat totally for business, and the American Dream, when others said, Why shouldn't I go live on an island. I voted Democrat, but thought like a Republican.
