My review of Rudy's Tacos in the East Village, lunch today.
We weren't greeted when we came in, and I had to ask a young woman who seemed to be working there, talking to a couple of people casually at a booth, if they were open. They were open, and the place was lovely in decor, slightly rustic, with light American music playing. Phil choose a far corner booth, cushioned and spacious, easy to get in and out of, but we found out we were sitting right by the take-out window,
the only people we saw with masks on. The waitress brought us regular menus, not disposable kind, and we decided quickly. They did not give chips and salsa. I ordered the Southwestern Chicken Salad, and Phil got a combo meal. My came on a beautifully designed big plate, and Phil's came on about 3 separate smaller, slightly boring plates. Food came in about 10 minutes from ordering. His did not come with enchilada sauce. The only thing that came in a bottle was the hot sauce, the red ketchup kind of bottle. Mine came with Mexi-dressing (may have been homemade) in a small black dish. We got thin wrapped silverware which was just one fork, no knife. It was a lot of food for the price. My salad had colorful corn chips strips, shred carrots, cabbage, head lettuce, very small diced tomatoes, black olives, and lots of big strips of warm chicken, and shred cheddar cheese. Phil was reading the newspaper while he was eating. There were t.v.'s in there, but the sound was off, or real low. We both finished nearly all of the food served. I was in a very pleasant mood today, and this experience added to it. I give it a low 4 out of 5 stars.
