Espionage (short poem)

Espionage

You can learn a great deal from static on the land phone

Rice Krispies sizzling

or Pop Rocks in the mouth

you can call it America calling

I've taken apart phones

I've heard it too in the background of silent rooms

you can learn that someone is there scratching the ear

finger tips shocked when touching metal

frying the brain mites

picking at the ice

combing the dead air

you can learn short distances

came from miles away

and take the call from heaven

or hell with its crinkled papers

you just couldn't throw away
